Wild Chickens

Seems like everywhere you go in the main island of Tahiti you will see chickens running around, and unlike in other places like Asia, they do not appear to belong to anyone.

Yes, it seems that these birds are the Tahiti equivalent of London pigeons only less interested in begging for food.

They will go about their business, often with a row of little chicks in tow, and none of the locals will consider it strange or think about taking one home for dinner.

Baguettes

Baguettes, the long sticks of French bread, have been a Franch tradition for years and a visit to any French colony would not be complete without purchasing one.

In Tahiti you’re in a special kind of heaven, because, not only are these things in every single place where you would expect to find food, but they are at a price subsidised by the government.

A very long, very white, baguette will set you back a mere 50 – 55 XPF, which by any world standard is amazingly cheap.
